No, I'm not Irish, and you needn't kiss anything. Heheh. This is the project that has kept me away from blogging lately. My very first CD cover! It's been a while since I did any print work, and so this was a lot of experimenting and remembering how to do things in hi res. I also got to do the website design, which was a lot more fun, and you can see both here: www.kelticcowboys.com
There's an interesting backstory here. This friend of ours, Frank Mackey, wrote and recorded a song called Kiss My Irish Ass about 10 years ago. Well, unbeknownst to Frank, it became a big hit with the Irish drinking crowd online. It's all over the net, but listed as the wrong artist!!! Apparently nobody knows Frank did it. Everybody seems to think it was done by some other group, either Flogging Molly, Great Big Sea, Young Dubliners, or Drop Kick Murphy. Poor Frank. Not to get credit for his own hit!
ED: The hubs wanted me to be sure to state categorically that "Kiss My Irish Ass" is by Frank Mackey and the Keltic Cowboys, not by any of those other bands, and that the CD contains some other great songs, including his (the hubs') personal favorite "I Won My Wife in a Pissin' Contest" (which he didn't). [Now he owes me a nice dinner. :)]
The bad news is the old CD master is dead. The good news is, he's reissuing the song on a new CD, and the better news is, I got to do the cover. The bad news is, since it's a friend, and my hubs paid for the publishing, I get no monies until a profit is turned. So, get thee hence and spend some of your hard-earned ducets on this CD, just in time for St. Patty's day of course, so yours truly can see some green as well!

Top O' the mornin',
I've been trying to find out who did that song for at least 4 years. A kid I worked with brought me a CD he'd burned online that was supposed to be Flogging Molly stuff, which it was. All but "Kiss my Irish Ass", that is. It was "Love at first strum." I asked him who it was and he told me it was listed as Flogging Molly. I am a longtime fan of Molly and knew it wasn't them, and yes, many of my friends have argued that it's the Dropkicks or Black 47 as well as others. I'm a fan of alot of irish music and knew it was none of these bands. I must tell you, it's been the "itch I couldn't scratch" for years as I was very interested to know who actually did do the song. My band has covered it, in fact and I have never known who to credit it to. Now I do. I searched "Kiss My Irish Ass" for shits and giggles this morning and there was your site. Frank and his boys have a very distinct and awesome sound and I look forward to hearing the rest of the record. How is it that such a musical gem has remained such a secret? I just wanted to share my story and say thanks for clearing this up for me. The cover is Excellent, and so you know I purchased the CD immediatley, before posting this message, in fact. I hope a share of my $13.99 rightfully finds it's way into your pocket, and of course Frank and co.s as well. Thanks so much. Take care .......
Joe Flanigan
P.S. I've considered covering the song for an album that's in pre-production with a new project i'm working on. Who would I talk to about properly securing the rights to do so? Thanks again .......
