I'm double-dosing this meme sent over by D at Third World County. This is one I can really get into, since I live in my head a lot anyway, and trudging through the past is one of my favorite things to do! I'll be posting my "coffee/tea" version of this meme in my other blog too.
Rules are:
Remove the #1 item from the following list, bump everyone up one place and add your blog's name in the #5 spot. You need to... actually link to each of the blogs for the link-whorage aspect of this fiendish meme-age to kick in.
Next, select four unsuspecting victims, list and link to them.
- The Oubliette - she doesn't know me, but I love her blog and I'm really interested to see her responses.
- It's Raining Again
- Keep the Coffee Coming - maybe Kat's answers will be musical!
- Soliloquy
Now - the subject of "this Detestable Meme" is Five Things I Miss From My Childhood:
1. Gramma's house - Momma was a rolling stone, but the grandparents gathered a lot of moss. No matter where we went, or why we left, we always ALWAYS ended up back at gramma's house. It was the one stable place on earth for me, always there, my emotional rock. When the grandparents died, the house was sold, and I heard it was going to be torn down and turned into condos or some such hellish thing. But when I went back to Seattle the last time, it was still there, still standing in all its stucco glory. I almost knocked on the door and asked for one last look inside. I wish now that I had.
2. Getting to lick the bowl - Now that I'm a growed-up, I can lick the bowl any time I want, and that somehow makes it less of a pleasure. I really enjoyed watching gramma stirring and mixing, the anticipation of that magic moment when she would hand me the wooden spoon and the bowl.
3. Fireworks at Greenlake - There's a little lake down the street from gramma's house. Every year they had a fireworks show for July 4th. Most years we sat on the roof and watched, but sometimes we went down to the lake and wandered around. By the late sixties it was too crowded (and too dangerous) to be fun anymore (for me). I miss the small-town feeling of Seattle back then.
4. Paper dolls - the only toy you can take with you whenever you move, especially if you leave in a hurry and don't have time to pack. Paper dolls... they fit in your pocket, and you can make new clothes with only paper and crayons. *sigh* I loved my paper dolls.
5. Guilt-free hot dogs - ever since I learned what they put in them, I can't enjoy a hot dog without feeling horribly guilty and a little twisted. But when we were kids, we lived on hot dogs! Oh, and spam. We ate a lot of fried spam. Ah, the daze of ignorance / days of innocence.
Indeed, I agree with David. Your memories are wonderful ones...I hope you find mine half as enjoyable. Thanks for the virtual stroll! :)

I /knew/ I'd find a walk down your meme-ory lane not only interesting but peaceful. Smile on my face: not large, just a feel-good smile.
Thanks
