I ran across this post and laughed so hard I blew coffee out my nose. Crikey, what a way to start the day. I love a good laugh first thing in the morning. And this one touched a chord, since the hubs has never been able to distinguish between sarcasm (which is usually good and funny and acceptable) and cruel put-down humor (which is none of the above). I've tried and tried, and he just doesn't get the distinction. I guess there's some gray area in there, and the line isn't apparent to him. I see it. No, more accurately, I feel it. I can tell when something crosses the line and becomes hurtful. If it hurts somebody, it's not ok. But then he shoots me down with, "well, put-down humor doesn't HURT me, I like it, it makes me laugh." But my little sarcastic quips don't. GRRR. I give up.
So, anyway... the sarcasm quiz ... go check it out: http://www.jorydesjardins.com/pause/2005/06/a_quiz_for_the_.html
I don't get it.

Found you via Carol's (weary hag) blog and the being tagged with the 5 things I miss from childhood bit. Enjoyed what I have seen! Will keep coming back to read.
As far as sarcasm vs. put down I always go the rule of "How would I feel if it was said to me in front of a crowd?" For personal relationships, the rules change since I don't believe any put down or sarcasm is acceptable since it would be a self-inflicting injury.
