I Wanna Cup of Tea & Other Amusements

Tea song: I love this kind of stuff.  I Want a Cup of Tea is a musical offering from DenDee, posted on the TeaMuse website.  But ... in the middle of the song he asks for a bowl of spotted dick.  Or tick.  What's that, pray tell?

Blogstuff: I thought I'd try out the 100% Chillin Craving Index that adds little icons to your blog.  s'kind of interesting, but no tea icons.  *sigh* So, right now I'm craving:

Heh, thanks D. What a hoot. See my spotted dick post next up for more on this. Hey, now, this recipe you give here talks about both a rolled up sausage shape and a bowl shape. Huh. It's very confuzzling.

"The Oxford Companion to Food comments that, strictly speaking, "spotted dick" is made by taking a flat sheet, spreading sugar and raisins on it, then rolling it up. A similar dessert is "spotted dog," a plain cylinder of suet paste with the raisins and currants and sugar stuck into it, so that the spots are visible on the outside. Both spotted dick and spotted dog were traditionally boiled (or even steamed) in a cloth, but nowadays they are usually baked."
